Senior Staff Nurse- Day Duty £35,000 + Benefits. London (West End)
This vacancy is being advertised on behalf of Pay Monthly 2 Recruit who is operating as an employment agency.
Our client is one of London’s foremost private Hospitals. Based in the West End they have been delivering high quality healthcare for over a Hundred years and they deliver the highest standards of private medical care in London.
They are looking for a senior staff nurse to work day duty in their well established Critical Care Unit. The successful candidate will be a competent critical care nurse who has successfully completed a recognised ITU course. An ALS/ILS certificate is essential as is a teaching and assessing qualification. The post holder will be required to co-ordinate activities on the unit on a regular basis ensuring that effective communication is maintained at all times. They must also be willing to be involved in working parties/groups and also to participate in audits and training activities.
Essential Qualifications:
- Registered Nurse Level 1
- ENB 100 or equivalent or
- extensive ITU experience
- ALS Course
Desirable Qualification:
- ENB 998 or equivalent
- Management course or experience
Job Role
Professional
- Be aware of and comply with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct for Nurses and EC directives.
- Assist the Critical Care Manager and Sister in maintaining and enforcing the hospital’s procedures and policies.
- In the absence of the Critical Care Manager or Sister inform Matron’s office of relevant changes which occur, including accidents and incidents.
Clinical
- Assess patients’ needs and develop programmes of care, giving a high standard of care at all times.
- To carry out nursing and medical instructions correctly and promptly.
- To promote and maintain professional confidentiality at all times.
- Inform the Senior Nurse on duty/Matron’s Office when changes occur with patient care.
- To ensure and maintain safe practices at all times.
- Ensure that all clinical and legal documents are completed accurately and legibly.
- To provide a suitable environment for the physical and psychological well being of patients and their relatives.
- Allocation of staff taking into account patient need and skill mixes, but also identifying the needs of individual staff.
- Develop practice in line with developments in nursing and to meet the needs of patients.
Management
- To ensure safe storage and administration of drugs, in accordance with the Drug Policy and law.
- To be aware of the Hospital Fire Regulations and Procedures in accordance with the Healthy & Safety Act 1974.
- To check that equipment is regularly maintained and that staff always use equipment safely and correctly.
- To practice safe economy in the use of medical supplies and equipment, where possible.
- To participate in the updating and implementation of hospital policies and procedures.
- To take responsibility for the unit when required, including supervision and leadership of junior staff.
- To give concise, relevant verbal and written reports to ensure effective communication.
- Document patient care using the care planning system in place.
- To attend meetings and to impart necessary information to ward staff.
- When in charge, discuss problems with the RMO and Matron’s Office when changes occur which may affect standards of care.
Education
- To assist with maintaining a suitable learning environment for all staff, to include relevant preceptorship/mentorship and to be actively involved with in-house training.
- To maintain own professional development.
- Be aware of changes in policies and procedures.

Human Resources
- Assist with the orientation of new staff.
- To assist in the development of new staff and students, assessing practice when necessary.
