Staff Nurse- Day Duty £26,400 + Benefits. London (West End)

Our client is one of London’s foremost private Hospitals. Based in the West End they have been delivering high quality healthcare for over a Hundred years and they deliver the highest standards of private medical care in London.
They are looking for a staff nurse to work day duty. The successful candidate will have a minimum of two years experience on a surgical ward, enjoy working as part of a highly motivated team and have evidence of personal professional development. A genuine interest in surgical nursing particularly elective orthopaedics and gynaecology is essential. The hospital encourages feedback from all levels of staff and involvement in working parties and the implementation of research based change is encouraged. Ward description: A 22 bed, mainly elective surgery ward. About 70% orthopedic – hip, knee, ankle and shoulder surgery; laparoscopic gynae, breast surgery. About 5-10% elderly medical patients- chest infection, asthma, diabetes etc. We have a team of 1 ward manager, 2 ward sisters, 2 senior staff nurses, 9 staff nurses, 2 HCA’s and 1 ward clerk. Patient ratio is usually 1 nurse to 4-5 patients. The pattern of work is day duty, 12 hour day shifts with every second weekend off.

Job Summary
- Participate and contribute in the direct delivery of patient care to include assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating individual programmes of care.
- Effectively communicate and co-operate with all Wards and Departments within the hospital.
Job Role
Professional
- To be aware of and comply with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct and EC directives.
- To be aware of and comply with the hospital’s policies and procedures.
- To be aware of current trends and developments maintaining professional awareness of new procedures and terminology.
- To liaise and co-operate with all other wards, departments and personnel.
- To assist in the orientation of new members of staff.
- To participate in designated Committees/Working Parties within the hospital as required.
Clinical
- To assess patient’s needs and develop, implement and evaluate programmes of care, maintaining a high standard of care and professional conduct at all times.
- To carry out nursing and medical instructions competently and promptly.
- To maintain professional confidentiality and ensure colleagues understand the relevance of this.
- To inform the Nurse in Charge when changes occur with patient care.
- To provide safe, evidence based practice at all times.
- To ensure that all clinical and legal documents are completed accurately and legibly.
- To keep up to date with Consultants’ Guidelines/preferences and follow instructions given.
Managerial
- To ensure the safe custody and administration of drugs in accordance with established policies, procedures and law.
- To maintain effective communication with other wards and departments to enhance patient care.
- To be aware of the implications of the Health and Safety at Work Act, as it affects the ward.
- To be aware of the fire regulations, fire procedures and evacuation protocols.
- To be aware of the current cost of medical supplies and equipment and practise economy in their use, where possible.
- To document patient care using the care planning system in place, based on the Roper, Logan and Tierney Model of Nursing or, where relevant, Integrated Care Pathways.
- To report if the standard of cleanliness and availability of supplies fall below an acceptable standard.
- To participate in the implementation of nursing policies.
- To ensure the regular checking and maintenance of equipment and ensure its safe use, reporting any faults immediately. Ensure colleagues know how to operate apparatus correctly.
- To give concise relevant verbal and documented reports as required.
Education
- To assist with maintaining a suitable learning environment for all staff, to include relevant preceptorship/mentorship and to be actively involved with in-house training.
- To assist with the orientation of new staff.
- To be aware of changes in policies and procedures.
- To regularly attend ward meetings.
- To remain personally up to date with matters relating to nursing practise and ensure own professional development.
